Project Life 2014- Weeks 21 and 22 (the end of Book One!)

I decided at some point earlier this year to divide my Project Life 2014 into three books. One for January through May, one for our five weeks with the Little Man, and one for the rest of the year. These pages will mark the end of my first book!

2014PLWeek21a web

The first two pages are a mix of everyday photos.

Journaling reads- This week I hung up pictures and decorated our bedroom. We ate out a lot- Joe’s for pizza, Crocante for dessert, D’Apple for breakfast, and Larry’s for ice cream. We also checked out Barnes and Noble and bought new tires for the car. On Friday night we stayed up late and snuck into the park to try and catch the Camelopardalids meteor shower. We saw “something”, but not sure what it was. It was fun to sit outside and look at stars though! On Sunday we went to the RC track for the first time.

2014PLWeek21b web

I took a ton of pictures of Miss Kitty the night we stayed up late to watch the meteor shower, so I added them all in a page.

2014PLWeek21c web

But those pictures don’t compare to the sheer number I took at the RC track. Maybe 200? So yeah, those needed their own page too.

2014PLWeek21d web

The last page for my book was a partial week, the last couple of days before we went to North Dakota. I relied heavily on my Momento app to remember things I didn’t have pictures for. The blurred out square is a picture of my sister’s new apartment complex we took from their website.

Journaling reads- This was our last few days before going to pick up [Little Man] for the summer. The most exciting thing that happened this week was that Jamie and Ryan got approved for an apartment! So happy for them! C sent us some silly pictures, we went for walks, and my seedlings grew. I finished Gone Girl. Maya Angelou passed away. The #yesallwomen hashtag blew up in response to the shootings in Santa Barbara last weekend. These few days were filled with cleaning, packing and planning for Summer of Awesome 2014!

And that wraps up my first book! I feel very accomplished! I probably won’t get it printed for a long time, but it’s a great feeling to see them all together on my PL2014 page. Tonight I’m going to sit down with Jason and force him to scroll through them all. He’s super psyched of course 😛

I’ve already started working on our summer book. I had initially thought of doing a “summer daily” book, similar to everyone’s December Daily. But I take way too many pictures and have written way too many words for that to be feasible. (Some days will probably have five pages). I can’t wait to start sharing them next week!

Journaling reads- This week I ruined gnocci, but discovered a new way to cook eggs. Jason came home from lunch and we saw a double rainbow. There were excellent season finales, snails, and the World Lens app. [Little Man] got cool new shades. We tried another new taco place a possible campsite, and went to the library. Jason used his mad mechanical skills and fixed the RC car. A new obsession was born! We checked out the RC racetrack and saw a few fun races.

Very rough week for me emotionally. Usually I feel better once Mother’s Day is finally over, but this year it took awhile longer.

This is another one of those weeks that I struggled a bit to know what to say. If you just read the first paragraph, you’d think that it was a nice, average week. I don’t like to dwell on bad things in my scrapbooking, especially when they involve other people. But I also wanted to acknowledge that this was a tough week without going into details.

Also, the blurred image is of something Jason was working on at the office. I’m sure he took it to show someone at work, and not for my Project Life. But I love getting bits like that, and I love that he thinks to share them with me.

Project Life 2014- Week 19

I decided to do a one page LO for this week. With Day in the Life being this week, I was kind of on photo overload. I’m ready to get May wrapped up so I can start sharing my Summer Daily pages!

Journaling reads- This was an exciting week. I was on the Paperclipping Roundtable podcast to talk about scrapping relationships. I was so nervous, but had a great time! Jason scored some fancy chocolates from grateful salespeople. Duing the weekend we tried a new Mexican restaurant, went to Costco, and about three office supply stores. We bought new desks and chairs, which Jason put together. Mothers Day was pretty rough, as usual. But I made it through. A week of very high highs and very low lows.

I decided to put the “official” Day in the Life into Project Life as a series of pages with photos and words from my blog post last month. Super simple. It resembles my regular pages, except for the last one. I used the same CZ templates (some altered), and the same fonts (CK Ali’s Hand, Bebas, and Bariol).

By the time I got to the last page I realized that I had WAY too many words. But I wanted to use them all, so I took a template that I’d made a couple weeks ago for some panorama shots and moved things around to fit everything I wanted to say.

These pages make me happy. I like having a little more personal writing about our days, as opposed to the “just the facts” tone I have in the rest of the book.

Project Life 2014- Week 18

2014PLWeek18a web

Remember when I used to make a page or two for each week? Yeah, me neither. It’s been 3+ pages per week for awhile now. And weirdly that is not stressing me out one bit! I think I have my routine for these pages pretty down pat at this point. And it still stresses me out way more to narrow down my favorite photos than it does to make a few extra pages, so whatever works.

Journaling reads- This week we were in Orlando for Jason’s work. It was fun to meet more of his colleagues and to get to see him doing what he does best. The weather was crummy, but we managed to go for a few walks around the resort. While he was working, I did a lot of writing and scrapbooking in our room.

And a side note here to explain the sparse journaling. I’ll go ahead and get this out of the way…. we are not big Disney people. I know, I know. Sacrilege! So here’s the deal, we’ve been to Orlando at least a dozen times over the years we’ve been married and the luster has worn off. We just like Busch Gardens a lot more than the Disney parks. Unless it involves Harry Potter or food festivals, I’m not going to get overly excited about a trip to Orlando. Plus we actually were there for work, so there’s that.

2014PLWeek18b web

I have to say though, the resort was gorgeous. I took some of my very favorite photos all year during some of our walks.

2014PLWeek18c_blur web

A couple of the photos above were blurred for privacy. Jason was able to snap a bunch of pictures during the conference, which was awesome. I love getting bits of his work life in Project Life.

2014PLWeek18d web

Some pictures of our hotel. I always try to get at least a few from our room, and since this is where I spent the majority of the week I took a lot. It was really nice to have some quiet time alone to write and play with pictures. See what a homebody I am, even in one of the biggest tourist destinations in the country? 😛

And finally, a few last random pics- rain, head-sized cookies, waiting on more rain, my drink of choice this trip (Old Fashioned), making lists, and our go-to travel munchies on the way back home.

Project Life 2014- Week 17

2014PLWeek17a web

I thought I was going to beat Week Eleven’s record, but I “only” managed seven pages this time. We took a couple thousand pictures the week Jason’s dad was with us. It took me over a week to sort through them all! But it’s all finished and I’m super happy to have this week documented.

I used a combination of photos around the house and photos I took with the Collect app for the first page.

Journaling reads- Jason’s dad came to visit us for a few days this week so the early part of the week we were busy prepping the house and doing a little decorating.  We had a nice time showing him around town. He and I made pierogi on Friday. Saturday we went to Miami and the Keys. Sunday was full of drama, but we managed to squeeze in some beach time and lots of tasty food.

2014PLWeek17b web

This is the kind of week that would have completely stalled me last year. I’m really bad at getting those “big” weeks into Project Life. I think for this week in particular, blogging about the things we did was a huge help. I had already picked out a lot of my favorites to share here, so I had a jumpstart on things. The second page pictures came straight from my pierogi post.

2014PLWeek17c web 2014PLWeek17d web

Pages 3 and 4 are some favorites from Little Havana and the Keys.

2014PLWeek17e web

Page 5 shows our very favorite restaurant in Key Largo and the amazing sunset.

2014PLWeek17f web 2014PLWeek17g web

Pages 6 and 7 are from Sunday, which was our last full day with Jason’s dad. We went to a couple of beaches, but they looked pretty messed up compared to the last couple of times we were there with my sister and by ourselves. Tons of seaweed and some trash, which is pretty unusual from our experience.

The last page has photos from the rest of Sunday,

Journaling reads- Leftover pierogi for breakfast, doughnuts for lunch, and Lefty’s for dinner. And in the middle of all that we played Left, Center, Right and got locked in our bedroom.

A few observations-

Like I said above, I think blogging our adventures really helps me to break down big events into more manageable chunks. Already having my favorites edited, starred, and ready to go made filling these pages much easier.

Though I didn’t utilize the Collect app as much as I’d wanted to this week, it fits really well with my aesthetic this year, so I definitely want to use that more.

I’m happy to have a few go-to template designs each week. I thought it would be boring, but I love having one less thing to think about. Every week I use the Design A-type template for most pages, with the 6 or 9 photo templates for “special events”.

I want to go back and add captions to a few of my pages, especially for making note of places. A lot of the beaches look the same down here, so I might need help differentiating between them.

And I guess that’s about it! This week will be pretty Project Life heavy as I work on tying up loose ends and getting ready for the summer. Thanks for stopping by 🙂

Project Life 2014- Week 15 and 16

Week 15 was pretty busy and we took lots of pictures, so I made four pages. Pages 1 and  3 are a mix of everyday photos of the house and and exploring town, plus a photo Melissa texted everyone when she got engaged. Page 2 is a series of panorama shots I took with my iPhone around the apartment. I wanted some “before” shots to show the unpacking progress. I’ll do some “after” shots once I get pictures hung up. And page 4 is full of photos from EcoFest.

Journaling reads- This was an exciting week. Jason’s birthday and Melissa got engaged! In between all that, we unpacked more boxes and started setting up the bedroom for {Little Man). I had my first bath in the gigantic tub and started a new class. We did a lot of exploring over the weekend. Friday night was Date Night at Crocante. So good! We went to EcoFest at a nearby park and saw lots of cool animals and came home with a free fern! We went to Jason’s company picnic. We saw Captain America for Jason’s birthday. Melissa and James got engaged on her birthday.

I made myself stop at two pages for Week 16. It’s really hard to narrow them down when lots of interesting (to me) stuff is happening. I could have done a whole page just for the beach, but I did that for Week 14 so I didn’t want to be repetitive. My Momento app helped a lot for this week with things I didn’t have pictures for, or to help remember names of restaurants and things. I’ll be So Happy to be caught up again so things will be fresher in my mind!

Journaling reads- This was Easter week, so we sent a box to {Little Man}. We also got three pics from him! I tried Blogilates and batch cooked a bunch of food for Cleaner meals. The Dresden Files obsession continued. Jason and I really enjoyed getting extra time in the evenings together. We started decorating and cleared out more boxes. MK played with her jingly ball. Friday night we looked for stars in the park. Saturday was super busy- Chik N Treats, fish market, Sherwood Forest, and shopping for tons of new plants. We went to the beach on Sunday.

Project Life 2014- Week 14

2014PLWeek14a web 2014PLWeek14b web 2014PLWeek14c web 2014PLWeek14d web

Welcome to Week Fourteen! I’m working through catching up. I’ve discovered an interesting thing about myself this week. When I’m “behind” on this project, as inevitably happens a couple times a year, that’s when I start wanting to try something different. Instead of just diving in and getting caught up, I putz around and look for more ways to make it more “interesting” for myself. Which ends up making me fall more behind.

I toyed around this weekend with changing things up with Project Life. I get that itch every few months. It’s part of the process for me, which is why I did PL three different ways last year. But after playing around with a different idea for an hour or so, I started missing the simplicity of my photos + words only approach. So for now I’m keeping it as-is.

I’ve also added a new page to my blog with all of my 2014 Project Life pages in one place. I think they look pretty cool! And it keeps me motivated to keep going when I see them all together like that.

Journaling reads- This was our first week in our new aartment! Jamie was with us Monday and Tuesday so we had doughnuts, went to IKEA, and the beach, twice. She went home on Tuesday evening. Jason went back to work on Wednesday and I started unpacking. We did some exploring during the weekemd, checking out the library and a couple of grocery stores.

Project Life 2014- Week 13

2014PLWeek13 web

Week 13 means I’m a quarter of the way through! It was a pretty big week so I made three pages. The first two pages are mostly about packing, the move, and my sister’s visit, with a few everyday photos mixed in.

Main journaling reads- This week was all about packing up the house and moving to Coral Springs. I updated to iOS7 after months of refusing to. I squeezed in some working out and kitty snuggles in between packing and cleaning. Jamie flew down for a visit on Thursday!!! She helped me do last minute packing and cleaned out my fridge for me while we watched Damages. We loaded up boxes in the truck on Friday, and the movers came to finish up on Saturday. It was exhausting, but we did it! No time to rest though, because Hatsume Fair was Sunday!

Photo journaling reads- While packing, I found a big stack of unsent thank you cards from our wedding eight years ago. Ugh!

2014PLWeek13b web

I did a little more journaling on photos than I usually do because I had a few little stories that I wanted to write about this week.

Photo journaling reads- I will miss hanging out with the ducks every day.
Friday night we started packing up the truck and took one last walk around the complex.
Of course we lost one of our most important boxes. Thank goodness we finally found it after hours of searching.
Enjoying his first morning cup of coffee at our new home.
That moment where I realized I could take selfies with MK and I started liking those mirrored closet doors.

2014PLWeek13c web

The third page is a mix of photos from Hatsume Fair at the Morikami. We go there so often that we have lots of duplicate photos from through the years. We try to focus on different aspects of the park when we visit now, it’s a challenge to ourselves to try and get a photo of something new, like the martial arts demonstration. Since this was Jay’s first visit, Jason got a bunch of photos of me and her together. I looked at the photos I’d put in PL when we visited in January to make sure I wouldn’t be putting the same kinds of pictures. (I could take a dozen pictures of the same bridge each visit and not realize it).

So that’s Week 13! We have a busy couple of weeks ahead with a visitor, work travel, and getting to know our new town. Then before we know it, it’ll be time to pick up the Little Man for the summer. So can’t wait!

I’ve been kicking around ideas for how to document the summer. I’m leaning towards a Summer Daily type project. I absolutely love taking my time and making LO’s for last summer, but I think I want to try something different this time. 🙂

Project Life 2014- Week 12

2014PLWeek12a web

Here is my Project Life for Week 12.

Page 1 journaling reads- This week was nice, but busy. We celebrated St. Patty’s Day on Monday, and I did DITL. Jason got an award from work on Tuesday. I cut my own hair, which turned out pretty well. We did a lot of packing, planning, and everyday sorts of things. I made Jason’s favorite burritos.

2014PLWeek12b web

I’m doing Day in the Life on the last day of the month in 2014. The first few Days were not “normal” days at all. January we were in Nashville, February was Antoine and Heidi’s wedding rehearsal, and we had Jamie visiting at the end of March. I wanted to document a more average day at our old apartment before we moved, and the 17th seemed like as good a day as any. Though it was St. Patrick’s Day, the second page for this week the more everyday things.

Page 2 journaling reads- Day in the Life: March 17, 2014. His breakfast. His packed lunch. Her breakfast. Sunrise. Quick walk. Freshly trimmed palms. Two mile walk with Leslie. Packing.

2014PLWeek12c blur web

I added in the third page to show St. Patty’s day festivities and Jason’s award from work. The bottom pic is a close up of the award, blurred for work privacy.

Page 3 journaling- Day in the Life cont.Jason and his department all dressed up for St. Patrick’s Day. They had a ton of tasty food and played games. He was able to bring some home for dinner. The next day, he got a fancy award for working on the integration last year. So proud of him!

This isn’t my most cohesive spread ever. I did it right before we moved, and I was a little distracted so it doesn’t flow well. But I’m not one to re-do LO’s. Moving on 🙂
