High Five for… errr… Monday

A few recent awesome things…

1. These styles by Bekah E. I’m obsessed with flair. I’ve wanted to make my own for a really long time but couldn’t find the “perfect” style set. Now I have, and this is going to save me a ridiculous amount of money for sure.

2. Pictures from the Little Man. It’s getting cold up north. He’s a fan.

3. Scrapbooking process videos. I’ve started watching these while Jason watches football. I love Shimelle of course, but I’m getting into some of the others from Two Peas.

4. New fall shows! Right now we’re loving Sleepy Hollow, the Avengers, and the Blacklist. Good old favorites like the Mindy Project and Modern Family. NCIS was a little meh, but we’ll keep watching that until the end of time because apparently it will go on foreverrrr. A little disappointed in the Crazy Ones. I don’t like Sarah Michelle Gellar as straight woman. Looking forward to Vampire Diaries. Last season was the worst by far, so hoping they fix that (and stop making me hate Elena). Also looking forward to the Originals. Can’t wait for some pretty NOLA shots.

5. This workout video. I’m not quite a FIRM believer yet, but for a strength training video it’s not too bad.

Honorable mention goes to grape tomatoes. I’ve been keeping them in a jar on the counter and snagging a couple when I’m making dinner, or anytime for a snack. Having them right there in my face is making me reach for them instead of other, less healthy things.

Around here.

I have been feeling the urge to move lately. I love our place, but Jason’s commute is terrible so we’d love to find a comparable apartment down south. I want to be sure to capture our favorite bits of our place right now, soย I’ve been taking pictures of things around the house.

I have a gift for my sister in mind and it’s been fun playing with paint this week.

There have been many, many work calls interrupting our sleep lately causing me to drink more coffee than usual. We’re also going into work on the weekends now, which stinks.

We finally made it to Rorabeck’s for the first time this summer last weekend. I went a little crazy buying produce, but we’ve been really enjoying upping the veggies! I tried making zucchini chips for the first time, and I’m working on creating our new favorite taco dinner ever!

The little bit of free time Jason has in the evenings has been spent watching TV. We started Orange is the New Black, but it’s not exactly relaxing after a hard day of work, so we’re going to hold off finishing that until his schedule slows down, hopefully in November (crossing fingers!) We finished up this season of Next Food Network Star, and I think we’re finished with that show forever. The search continues for a new comfort show….

My first guest post, August goals, and other random Friday stuff

IMG_4053

I was super excited to do my first guest blog post over at the Nerd Nest on Sunday! It was all about food (some good, some very very bad). Go check it out ๐Ÿ™‚

I saw that Elise has started blogging regularly again after going on maternity leave. Yay! That reminded me that I haven’t done a goals post in a while, so here goes…

  1. Walk 40 miles. Maybe run a couple too.
  2. Read 5 nonfiction books.
  3. Participate in the 30 Day self portrait challenge from A Beautiful Mess.
  4. Blog or scrap at least ten of our summer adventures.
  5. Donate blood.
  6. Continue looking for a part time job.
  7. Try yoga with Jason.
  8. Start planning a fall garden.

The past two months have been sort of “survival mode” around here. I’m ready to find a little balance and normalcy. It’s been an extremely busy time at work for Jason lately, and it’s taking its toll. I’m at a bit of a loss as to how to help him. I can’t change his work situation, but I can make home as nice as possible. It’s important for both of us that we find things to do together that don’t involve How I Met Your Mother marathons. (Although we need that too).

For me, I’ve found that having structure in my days is absolutely essential. We always have more of a schedule when the Little Man is here. I’m bringing aspects of that into my days by myself and I’m feeling much more productive.

I told you this post was going to be random…

Anyway, I’ll end with some Currents-

Watching HIMYM, Sharknado, and Glitter Girl.
Reading You Can Buy Happiness (and it’s cheap). Taking a little break from Phryne. She kind of went off the rails in that last book.
Listening to Garbage, Frame Rate, PRT, and Pop Culture Happy Hour.
Making LO’s for challenges.
Feeling very anxious all week.
Planning ways to fill up the weekend that don’t involve spending a lot of money.
Loving that my dad emails me about stuff he reads here.

Annd I think that’s about it. As LM says, I’m “out of information”. ๐Ÿ™‚

Currently

Watching How I Met Your Mother. We started watching this on Netflix Streaming the night LM left, and we’ve already plowed through the first season and a half. So hilarious! And I finally found out where this quote came from last year, which is… wait for it… awesome.

Reading blogs on Feedly. Finally. This has been a month long trial trying to find an RSS reader after Google kicked it’s Reader to the curb. When Reader stopped, unfortunately so did my beloved Flipboard. I’ve loved Flipboard for a long time, but despite what they promised my feeds did not get migrated over and I stopped getting 95% of them. I tried Bloglovin’, but they don’t have categories, which I desperately need. And I got cranky that all my feed info was public by default with no easy way to change it to private. Which in the grand scheme of things is NBD, but I was having a crappy day so it turned into a BFD. Enter Feedly. I was able to import my old OPML file, so now I have all my feeds, and I’m busily sorting and organizing them.

Listening to Anna Kerinina. I’m almost finished. This might be one of my longest audiobooks ever, almost forty hours. I’m not sure what to say about it that hasn’t already been said. There is a lot more about farming than I expected.

Making lots of LO’s.

Feeling nervous, chilly, inspired.

Planning my first guest blog post.

Loving that Jason’s coming home early today.

Playing with Aperture. And loving it!

Looking forward to the new PL class coming up.

Applying for part-time jobs.

Missing LM. Always.

Thinking of going back to digital PL for a few weeks.

Enjoying the quiet.

Fall TV

I’m still here, in 85 degree weather waiting for fall to arrive in South Florida. Any day now…

While I’m waiting on that, there are tons of fun fall things to watch right now. The new fall season of some of our favorite shows have finally arrived, and we’ve found a few new ones we like too.

There have been a couple of disappointments, like Revolution and The Newย Normal. I was pretty excited for both of these, but they were both meh . I think Jericho and Modern Family did it first and did it better.

We weren’t especially looking forward to The Mindy Project or Go On, but both have been surprisingly good so far. I usually hate to watch anything medical related for entertainment, but TMP is mostly focused on her love life, or lack thereof. She just happens to also be a doctor. We’ve only seen one episode of Go On, but it was pretty cute, so it got added to the DVR a little late in the game.

As for old favorites coming back… Loving the direction they’ve taken with Once Upon A Time! We were kind of worried what they would do with everyone getting their memories back finally, but now they’ve added in a new place and a few new characters they’re keeping things fresh.

NCIS’s first couple of episodes were kind of downers but they picked it up and it’s getting back to the same show we know and love.

Up All Night is still hilarious, especially the trapeze episode. I mentioned before how much I would love to take trapeze lessons ๐Ÿ™‚

And last, but not least… Vampire Diaries!!! Okay, I know. I will not defend my love for VD here. I will just say that for a show written for teenagers, it’s pretty damned good. The end. This season starts out with Elena waking up changed. (I won’t get spoilery in case anyone wants to catch up on the first couple of seasons on Netflix streaming. Which you should). Anyway, Elena is changed, but will she stay that way? Or will Bonnie find a way to stop things? And who’s this new crazy priest? And will the humans be able to take back Mystic Falls from the sups? And wtf is up with Tyler? And can poor Rebecca get a freakin’ break already? I think the best part for me was when Gram showed up. Pretty great. I might have jumped up and down and pointed just a little. Can’t wait for tonight’s episode.

Yes, we watch too much TV. That actually doesn’t even scratch the surface of our DVR to-record list. There are several shows, like Covert Affairs and CSI that we record too. These are just the ones we keep up with regularly. The rest we save for when our other shows have gone to reruns or on hiatus.

Would love to hear if anyone has any good recommendations for TV shows ๐Ÿ™‚

High Five for Friday

Photobucket

Wow this marks my 10th High Five for Friday post! I’m not always consistent about doing them, it’s been over a month since I wrote one, but I love gathering together snippets of things that I’m excited about and grateful for. These will be fun looking back at in five years, that’s for sure.

So here are five awesome things from the last month or so…

1. Hunger Games. Oh yes. Obsessed. Read of my love of all things HG here.

2. Looking (nearly) normal again. I had my eyelid I&D a couple of weeks ago. I looked pretty gross for awhile before and after, but on the road to looking like myself again. It’s awesome not to look like the bad guy in the Green Lantern anymore. Or like I got in a bar fight.

3. My sister got her first job!!!! SO proud of her!!! She has had so many struggles these past month with the house fire and the ending of her long term relationship. I’m so glad things are looking up for her.

4. Little Man made it safely back to CA and is doing well. He started school Monday. Will post a pic as soon as him mom sends me one.

5. Fluffy shows and books. I’m tearing through the Amelia Peabody mysteries. I started reading them back in high school, but I stopped somewhere around book 12 or 13. I picked them up again after I read HG. I decided to start over again, and I’m on the 12th book. It’s kind of interesting reading them as a married lady v. reading them in high shool and in my early 20’s. I was surprised to realize how these books have influenced some of my thinking, especially about men.

Also watching a lot of Big Bang Theory reruns, and our usual House Hunters and Bitchin’ Kitchen. Can’t wait to introduce little man to Nadia G. As Jason said, “He is so going to be in love with her”. I don’t think he’s the only one ๐Ÿ˜›

Okay one more thing that I’m ridiculously stupidly excited for…

6. Holy Balls Becky Higgins! I actually said that out loud when I saw that she’s going to be doing a SMALLER VERSION OF A PROJECT LIFE ALBUM!!! I am so intimidated by her 12×12 albums. I always have everything printed in 8×8 whether it’s pages or books. That’s one of my main reasons for doing PL in digital form. And I probably still will. But I would LOVE to maybe use one of her smaller books as Little Man’s next summer book. Or to make mini books of trips. Or… oh so many possibilities there! She has a ton of new announcements up on her blog this week, including designs by Elise Blaha (!), new baby kits, and new kits for kids. Hopefully these will all be available digitally too. Can’t wait!
