Throwback Thursday | Jewelry

The cameos in Connie’s kit were what inspired this page about the jewelry I’ve inherited from my grandmothers. This is a story I’ve wanted to scrap for a long time and I’m so glad I finally did it. I’d really like to scrap more pages about the important objects in my life and why I love them.

2015-02-06 Grandmothers' Jewelry web

Journaling reads- Some of my most loved possessions are pieces of jewelry that belonged to my two grandmothers. I’ve had all of these for twenty years or more, and the memories of which pieces belonged to which grandmother have faded. I know the cameos belonged to my Nanny, my mom’s mom. The ship necklace was my Maw’s, my dad’s mother. I believe the rest of the bracelets were hers too. The charm bracelet was definitely hers. Someone told me that the park bench charm was to signify that Paw proposed to her on a park bench. I love having these special pieces of our family’s history.

Travel Tuesday- Louisiana 2014

Y’all know I love scrapping my Louisiana trip from last year! I’ve made around 30 so far, and I have many many more to go. Here’s the latest batch.

Oh, Abita Cafe, I miss you so…. This happy morning themed kit was just perfect for my photos.

2014-11-24 Good morning Abita web

Journaling reads- We had the BEST breakfast in Abita Springs. Catfish and shrimp, crab cakes and poached eggs- that was a meal we’ll remember for years to come. We loved it so much, we went back the next morning for more! November 24, 2014

This next one is more of an AAM page, but the photo was taken in Jackson Square, so I’ll just plop it in here. Travel photo can work double duty as personality pages. Love this doodled border, and I can’t get enough striped backgrounds, so perfect for journaling.

2014-11-26 Behind the Scenes web

Journaling reads- It was so interesting getting to see the process behind the scenes of how all the different wines were made. From straining the grapes, to the barrels where they aged the wine, and corking and labeling the bottles, it all made us realize just how complicated it is to make wine. We learned a lot!

This is 2 of 37 All About Me pages I plan to make before I turn 38 in February 2016. All of my 37 in 37 LO’s can be found here.

Big Honkin’ Layout Share, featuring 2005, wedding, Christmas, travel, and an old school Project Life page

I have been scrapping my booty off lately! Here are a few of my latest pages.

First up are the new releases from the GingerScraps designers.

2005-06-01 back and forth web

I think this might be one of my favorites, ever. As I mentioned last week, I’m working on scrapping some of my 2005 memories. One of the biggest themes of that year was all the traveling back and forth that Jason and I did to see each other. The honeymoon collection could not have been more perfect to scrap that! The map paper, oh I love it so much. I’ve been trying to come up with fresh ideas for photo-less pages, and the Word Paths were a great jumping off point in my design. I’m really proud of this page.

Journaling reads- Being in a long distance relationship involved a lot of travel for both of us. After that first visit, we tried to get together once every month or so. He would fly to Nashville or I would fly to West Palm. Those visits were one of the lifelines of our relationship. We measured time by how long it was until we would see each other next. So many of our conversations centered around planning the logistics of our visits, where we would stay, what we would do together. Thinking back, I remember it was hard, but it was all so worth it to see each other.

I’m working my way through wedding photos this year too. I’m so glad that I didn’t scrap all of them when I first started. I like that my wedding pages reflect the evolution of my style, and aren’t stuck back in my 2010 style. I have hundreds of photos, so I figure I’ll scrap a few each year, and I’ll be finished sometime around 2075-sh.

Tracie, from Clever Monkey Graphics released a couple of Christmas kits this week, so y’all know I snatched those up! You can’t have too many Christmas kits, right?

The first one documents our doughnut obsession.

Journaling reads- Let’s not talk about the amount of Christmas doughnuts we ingested this year…. Dec. 2014

And the next one shows off some more photos from Four Freedoms Park, where we stopped on our way to Louisiana. I’ve already done a few pages about it, but I wanted to do one that showed how they had it decorated.

Last year, I took the Catch Up with Project Life class at BPC, where I made several pages for my 2011 Project Life album. (Which I just realize I never shared here) I’m coming close to finishing, and I’m pretty excited!

That year I made a single page spread for each week. So I knew Dagi’s new templates would be great to use for my next unfinished week. In a stroke of scrapping serendipity, the colors in Blue Heart Scrap’s newest kit worked out just perfect for that week too.

Make Memories by Blue Heart Scraps Day by Day template by Dagi's Temp-Tations

It was neat looking back at our “old old” apartment. You can just barely see the little Kitty head peeking out from around the stairs.

But I have to say, thank goodness for Rad Lab, because a lot of those pictures were kind of rough. I’m resisting the urge to try and fix the photos in my PL pages from that year before I get them printed. Ain’t nobody got time for that.

I have lots more pages to share this weekend. It has been an amazingly busy scrappy month around here!

New Release Day

So much tasty goodness releasing today at GingerScraps!

Toad-ally Adorable by Aprilisa (kit, journal cards, flair, and templates)

One of my goals for 2015 is to scrap 2005. That was a huge year, and I’ve been looking forward to digging into it since late last year. The frogs in Aprilisa’s new kit reminded me of my old pj’s, so I went on the hunt for pictures. I found these, from my very first trip to visit Jason in West Palm Beach.

Journaling reads- We spent the first of what would become many evenings together on the patio talking. Jason smoking, and me in my froggy pajamas. I wish I could remember those conversations. I’m sure we talked about everything and nothing. Plans for our future, how much we missed each other when we were apart. How his work was going, and how much I enjoyed my first taste of taquitos.

The next page I made just for the sentiment on the card. Because, yes, yes you do…

2005-02-01 horoscope web

There are going to be a lot of photo-less LO’s for 2005. (I shared a few last year). So much of our communication revolved around text- IM’s and emails. I like the challenge of figuring out page designs that hold up to lots of words.

Journaling reads- I don’t believe in horoscopes, but back in the early 2000’s, I used to get my horoscope delivered to my email every morning. It was just something fun to look at every once in a while. Now, at the beginning of 2015, I’m mining old emails to piece together some of our early relationship. It was interesting to find these horoscopes in my “Jason” folder, not only because I’d forgotten I ever used to get a daily horoscope, but because I thought they were worth keeping at the time. I was totally falling for this guy, and apparently the stars (and whoever writes this stuff) were in agreement 🙂

Next up is another Louisiana trip page. Because I can’t let a single week go by without one. This is just a picture that we take nearly every trip, the super exciting Fort Drum rest stop. I promise I’m almost finished with the rest stop LO’s. Almost.

Whew! It’s been a crazy busy week, with no signs of slowing down anytime soon. But I’m so grateful for the opportunity to work with so many fabulous ladies that help me stretch and grow in my scrapping. I’m having a blast!

New release day at GingerScraps!

I’m super excited to share that I’ll now be a permanent member of the GingerScraps CT! I guested for them back in November and had a really great time playing with all kinds of goodies! This will mean that Fridays on the blog I’ll have a New Release post with any pages I’ve made.

So here goes!

Let's Party Monthly Mix collab Make It Two by Dagi's Temp-tations

The first two LO’s are from our Louisiana trip. I’m really concentrating on those photos and stories this month, and I love the focus it’s giving me. I did the same thing last year with our first trip to California, and I made lots of pages. I plan on continuing this idea of a “monthly concentration” throughout 2015.

This page is a reminder to myself to take care of myself when we travel. I get motion sickness on planes, boats, and long mountain drives. And now I guess we can add very long bumpy bridges to the list too.

Inspired by- The red and blue of the kit reminded me of the red coke bottle and the blue of the sky as we crossed the bridge. I had to edit the photos pretty heavily to better match the kit, but I like them.

Journaling reads- Note to self- always, always take Dramamine when going over the Lake Ponchatrain Bridge into New Orleans. Those bumps are harsh!

2014-11-24 snapping the cathedral web

The second LO is the first of what I’m sure will be many pages about St. Louis Cathedral. It’s one of the most beautiful buildings I’ve ever seen.

Inspired by- The blues and purples in the kit. I’d originally wanted to scrap different photos, but they weren’t working out. The blue hombre paper reminded me of the sky (everything reminds me of the sky apparently) so I used these instead. Another heavily edited set of photos, but I felt like playing with filters that day, so I went with it.

Digital Besties collab by JB Studio

And lastly I have a page about a video game Jason has been obsessed with lately. I just couldn’t pass up that fabulous journaling card! I’m sure I’ll be making plenty more pages with this kit.

I’ll be continuing with the Project 52 that I started towards the end of last year, and this is my page for Week One. I’ll talk more about my version of P52 next week.

Inspired by- That awesome journaling card! We call ourselves the Awesome Family, so it totally feeds into our collective narcism.

Journaling reads- Jason and C finally got to play Vain Glory together this weekend. They’ve been wanting to for a long time. Yay for Skype and games with co-op!

Thanksgiving Eve 2013 using Flower Power templates from Dagi’s Temp-Tations

thanksgiving eve 2013 web

I love me some Dagi templates! I will snag as many of them as possible during my month at GingerScraps, that’s for sure. I’ve known her since the SDD days (she was one of my Love Birds *sniff*) and I’ve done a bunch of pages with her earlier templates. It’s been very cool seeing her progress through the years.

I seem to be binge-making Thanksgiving LO’s this week. And I don’t see that changing anytime soon! I took the journaling from this post. I know I’ve said it a billion times before, but I love having the blog to look back on so I can capture little details for my pages.

Journaling reads- We had a really nice low-key Thanksgiving this year. It was just the two of us and I have to say, we rocked it!
I tried to get as much done on Wednesday as possible. I made cornbread for dressing the next day. Jason was having a rough day at work, so I put up the tree as a surprise for him. His face lit up like a little kid’s, which was just the reaction I was hoping for
I made our traditional Thanksgiving Eve dinner of panzanella and sausage balls. I don’t know how this tradition started, but we’ve been doing it for three or for years now. It’s nice because we have leftovers that we can munch on while we make Thanksgiving dinner.

CT Layout- A Day With You

I’m loving the A Day With You kit by Keep In Touch Designs. The reds and blues are fabulous. And I’m a sucker for love kits. It’s great when paired with Dagi’s Color Me Pretty 4 templates. I combined them to make this LO about our anniversary trip to Busch Gardens last year.

I really enjoyed making this month’s soggy. Dagi’s templates are super easy to use. And this month’s Daily Download by Partners In Crime was perfect for my spooky siggy.

CT Layouts

Keep In Touch Designs is releasing a lovely kit today called Wedding Chic.

My mom is going to kill me when she sees this layout. 🙂

Journaling reads… Looking back at these pictures of my mom at my wedding is so funny to me now. She did not smile once in any of the photos before the ceremony. She had this serious expression in each one. She didn’t crack a smile until after the ceremony. Then she was all smiles! I think she was more nervous than I was. After the ceremony was over she was able to relax and enjoy herself.

Also releasing today is a template pack from Dagi’s Temp-tations. They’re in her brand new store at SDD. I can see myself using these a bunch for journaling pages.

Journaling reads-

Congenital cateracts run in my family. My grandparents had them. My father had them. My sister and I both had them. There is a very high likelihood that if I have children they will have them. I had two eye surgeries before I was a year old. While my vision now isn’t terrible, it’s far from perfect. My father is rapidly losing his sight and I live with the knowledge that one day mine might go as well. I think that is part of the reason that I compulsively document things. I feel like I have a thousand stories to tell and a limited time to tell them visually. So I make hundreds of scrapbook pages and take thousands of photos. I want to capture as much as I can while I can. This is what drives me.
